Originally from Richmond, Virginia, Ms. Shanté began her dance training at Tri-Cities High School in Atlanta, GA under the direction of Dawn Axam, Diane Sales, and Roscoe Sales. She furthered her studies at Total Dance under Ajile Axam, Oginga Love, and other esteemed instructors, developing a strong foundation in Ballet, Jazz, Modern (Horton, Graham, Dunham), African, and Hip Hop.
During her junior year of high school, Ms. Shanté learned how to call performance shows at Total Dance and discovered a love for stage management. She continued stage managing with Total Dance and later for Roots of Life after moving to State College, PA, and is now entering her fourth season as State Manager for the iamDance Dance Competition.
Ms. Shanté attended Coker College in Hartsville, SC, where she earned her BA in Dance Performance and Choreography and studied with Wanda K. W. Ebright and Angela Gallo. During this time, she became a founding member of The Wanda Project (TWP) under the direction of Wanda K. W. Ebright.
Ms. Shanté is currently an associate company member of Total Dance Company in Atlanta, GA, directed by Ajile Axam. She also serves as the Assistant to the Director for Roots of Life in State College, PA, works as the Dance Team Advisor at State College High School, and is an Instructor in the After-School Program at MindBodyArt. She teaches Modern at MindBodyArt. An award-winning choreographer, she brings creativity and artistry to every performance and class.
Now in her ninth year with MindBodyArt, Ms. Shanté brings her passion for dance, extensive professional experience, and stage management expertise to every class, helping students discover joy, discipline, and self-expression through movement.
